Do you have skills in RF electronics design and testing, an understanding of modern wireless communication standards, and/or experience in applying ML techniques to detection and optimisation? If so, we are seeking talented and motivated researchers to join the Communication Systems and Networks (CSN) research group at the University of Bristol on a variety of topic areas within the UKRI/EPSRC Prosperity Partnership on Secure Wireless Agile Networks (SWAN). Your skills will be applied to one or more of the topics below to advance research in the field of detection and mitigation of RF born cyber attacks on wireless systems.

If successful, you will be offered one of the following positions: Research Associate (I), Senior Research Associate (J), depending on your skills and experience. The role is funded up until January 2025, you may be able to apply for new opportunities within the group beyond the end date. This is a unique opportunity to advance your skills within the field of RF cyber security.

What will you be doing?

You will be working within a pioneering research team working on creating secure wireless technology for future communications systems. You will also be part of the Smart Internet Lab, an initiative that builds on Bristol's strategic research in communications and digital technologies to create a hub for internet research. Two posts are available.

Your responsibilities will embrace experimentally driven research in one or more of the following topics:

  • Application of ML/AI in the detection of RF cyber attacks for 4G/5G;
  • RF signature profiling at the antenna channel interface for intrusion detection;
  • RF cyber security analysis of satellite IoT networks (e.g. LoRa);
  • RF receiver and antenna design for highly contested EM environments;
  • Power efficient and frequency agile RF Power Amplifiers;
  • Secure Dynamic Spectrum Access.

You should apply if

  • You have a PhD or equivalent industrial experience in the above and
  • A desire to develop your research profile to enhance your future opportunities in academia or industry
  • An understanding of the RF Open Attack Surface
  • A track record of innovative and creative research in the field of RF systems and physical layer wireless design.
